About

Explore the framework equipping first responders with tools for emotional health and lasting cultural change.

At Checkpoints, we believe emotional health is as essential as physical safety for first responders. Founded by Chief Reuben G. Ramirez, a retired Assistant Chief of Police with nearly 30 years of service, Checkpoints is on a mission to redefine mental health support in high-stress professions.

The battle for emotional health

  • The psychological toll: Daily exposure to secondary trauma, including grief, tragedy, and human suffering, leaves a lasting impact.

  • Emotional burden: Officers often absorb and carry the weight of others’ pain, even when unacknowledged.

  • Cumulative stress: The mental strain builds over time, affecting well-being and resilience.

  • Limited support systems: Historically, there have been few structured tools or strategies to process trauma effectively.
